Growing Native Tallgrasses and Wildflowers for Prairie Restoration

Part 2 - The Science of a Tallgrass Prairie

Introduction

In order to understand a prairie system, it is important to understand the science behind it. Prairie systems are like any other ecosystem in their level of complexity. The interconnectedness of the processes is unavoidable, this section has been laid out to start with the sun, the largest component by size, and end with the mature plant, the fruit being small in size. It is hard to separate out all of the processes needed when trying to understand the dynamics of the prairie system, hopefully this will be a good start.

Big Bluestern is sometimes called Turkey Foot. This is because the inflorescence looks like a turkey's foot!
