Acknowledgments

Many people have helped to make this Folio possible and we wish to thank all of them here although it is not possible to do so in all cases by name. We owe special thanks to the Royal Canadian Geographical Society for a grant to J. G. Nelson to prepare this Folio. We also owe thanks to Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) for grants to J.G. Nelson which assisted with the work. Particular thanks are also extended to the Long Point World Biosphere Reserve Committee with which we developed close working relations and which also provided financial support to complete the Folio. In this regard we offer special thanks to all members of the Committee over the years and especially to the presidents at the time of our work: David Reid and Brian Craig. Funding was also provided by the Laidlaw Foundation and the Long Point Foundation as well as by George Francis through a Donner Foundation grant. Additional support also was provided by the University of Waterloo Faculty of Environmental Studies in the form of assistantships to students working on the Long Point Folio and by the Heritage Resources Centre, University of Waterloo. Lisa Weber, Administrative Officer of the Heritage Resources Centre deserves special credit for helping with accounts, organization and preparation of the background reports and other documents.

We also could not have completed our work without the aid of many key organizations involved in the Long Point area, including: the Long Point Bird Observatory, the Long Point Waterfowl and Wetlands Research Fund, the Canadian Wildlife Service, the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, the Long Point Region Conservation Authority, the Ontario Ministry of Environment and Energy, the Regional Municipality of Haldimand-Norfolk, Environment Canada, the Canadian Centre for Inland Waters, Ontario Hydro, the Norfolk Field Naturalists, and many other public and private organizations. We would like to thank the authors of the background reports: P.L. Lawrence, A. Skibicki, S. Dakin, R. Stenson, S. Wilcox, K. Beazley, C.L. Yeung, K. Wilcox (nee Pauls), R. Knapton, S. Radovich, A.M. Downey, T. Cheskey, B. Craig, and T. Staple. Special thanks are due to Patrick Lawrence who co-ordinated the field work by students upon which the background reports and folio are based. We would also like to thank reviewers of an earlier draft of the folio: Brian Craig, Arthur Langford, George Francis, Patrick Lawrence, and Jeff Robinson. We also are grateful for the advice of Mary Gartshore and Michael Bradstreet. We are of course ultimately responsible for the results which we hope will be helpful to all those concerned about and involved in the future of the Long Point area.
